Description of our Service

The Science Map Social Media Manager (SMM) is a social media publishing and management tool offered to scientific institutions (SI), like universities, academies, research institutions or individual research groups. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are integrated within the website and SMM connects to the SIs organizational accounts to publish and manage posts. The Science Map Social Media Manager connects to and synchronizes with the content of the SI (like publications, news, events, and others) to simplify social media posting based on those contents. It allows the definition of workflows to involve members of the SI in the creation of social media posts orchestrated by the SIs science communication officer.

Limitations and Responsibilities

The SMM service provided by Synoptic-Systems is bound to the contracting party. The rules if, to what extent, how many times, and to which organizations or sub-organizations the contracting party is allowed to relay those services are defined with the contracting party. If there is no such explicit and written definition made between Synoptic-Systems and the contracting party, the organization is not allowed to relay our services to any other organization or sub-organization.

Social media posts generated and published by the SI via SMM have to apply by the rules of social media etiquette. Such rules exclude especially, but not exclusively, all content that includes one or more of the following: harmful language, defamatory, racist, sexist, pornographic, discriminatory, national-socialist content, glorifying violence, or content with an equivalent or similar tendency. You are not allowed to distribute any false or inaccurate content, use our service for fraud or injure anyone’s intellectual property rights. You are not allowed to hack, inject, crack or otherwise damage our computer systems or networks. It is not allowed to use the service for extensive posting and posting under wrong or concealed identity.

You agree to use SMM for legal purposes only. By using our services you agree not to violate our terms, the terms of any third party social platform that SMM is connected to nor to any local, national or international laws.

Any violation or failure to comply with these terms may result in a temporary or complete banning and the termination of the service. Content that does not comply with these rules, can be removed by Synoptic-Systems without any prior warning. You agree that, in our sole discretion, we may decide whether you break those limitations or not.

Social Medias used by SMM

When you grant SMM appropriate rights, it connects to Facebook and/or Twitter (depending on your choice) via their official APIs (application programming interface) to interact with the social media profile of your organization. You are not allowed to connect SMM to other social media profiles other than the ones of your organization. Exceptions from this have to be explicitly defined between Synoptic-Systems and you, as described in section Limitations and Responsibilities, paragraph one.

When you connect SMM to one or more of your social media profiles on these platforms, SMM will store certain access tokens delivered by those APIs that allow SMM to interact with your social media profile. Those access tokens are used to publish posts on the corresponding Facebook page respectively Twitter account that you selected when granting SMM access to your social media profile.

By using SMM to connect and interact with your Facebook Page, you are agreeing to Facebook’s terms of services and privacy statements. You can find the terms here and the privacy statement here.

By using SMM to connect and interact with your Twitter Account, you are agreeing to Twitter’s terms of services and privacy statements. You can find the terms here and the privacy statement here.
